With the finale’s big Sauron reveal, audience members were left wondering where the next season will take them. According to showrunners,
this means they’ll be delivering what they were hoping they would get in the first season. Season two promises to be more satisfying and completing than ever before.
While there are a lot of secrets in The Rings of Power, the biggest one is that Sauron has been hiding in plain sight as Halbrand, a drifter who pretended to be king of the Southlands.

Dark Lord as an “low man.” They also teased what comes next for the character in season two.
McKay says, “What’s in the book is an all-encompassing evil that everyone is afraid of, and it’s so powerful that even though it doesn’t have to manifest
physically, he’s an image of an eye in [Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring] film and he was on the tower.
We wanted to study the currents flowing within Sauron as he transitions into becoming The Dark Lord. Hopefully as viewers follow him moving forward, we will also be rewarded with an understanding of what makes him tick.
Sauron has been a character in Middle-earth for thousands of years, but that doesn’t mean he’s well-known to everyone. With the intention of revealing
some new information about him, we decided to make this an origin story. We wanted to do a show about how Sauron’s deception could mislead some of the audience members.
In our podcast, Milton discussed Satan compellingly. As the first anti-hero, Satan is both interesting and hard to look away from. Payne:
“There’s something that Milton does in Paradise Lost that we talked about a lot. Where he makes Satan a compelling character. In some ways, he’s the first anti-hero where he’s compelling and you can’t take your eyes off of him.
Milton does the opposite on purpose and wants you to fall along with Adam and Eve. He wants Satan to be so persuasive that he subconsciously seduces you, making you believe your fallenness is evidence of your need for redemption.
Sauron is a deceptive character in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” who appears in “fair form.” He once gets into your head in order to reel you into believing he’s someone else, right before he reveals himself to be Sauron, the dark lord who will oppress and destroy Middle-earth.
The goal of villains is to have a meaningful impact on the protagonist. Think about what could make that happen.
Some people just didn’t want to wait and had guessed who Halbrand was along the way. The showrunners say this is okay with them — they weren’t trying to trick the audience with a twist that comes out of the blue.
One example of great story telling is the show Game of Thrones, which manages to keep us emotionally engaged throughout an entire season.
Every time we get close to figuring out the secrets and actual motives for characters on the show, something happens that changes our perception.
What makes Romeo and Juliet so compelling is the surprise factor. There are some stories that unfold in such a way that you still find yourself on the edge of your seat months after any single viewing.
“The last episode made people feel really special and moved them in a new way,” McKay says, reflecting on the past season of Westworld. “We hope that as we roll into season 2, people find it even better because they’re watching it through a new lens.”
The next season of the Prime Video series is set to begin filming in just a few weeks. While director Jackson King is notoriously protective
about what will happen in the show, he did point out that Sauron is now an antihero and could be compared to other well-known and long-running TV characters.
New question: Who is Sauron? Where did he come from? What did he suffer? Why is he driven? Season two of the show will explain more of the story that we didn’t know before, and fill in any missing information.

The title character in Game of Thrones, known as “Winterfell’s watchman” is evil but complexly evil. We felt like if we did that in season one, he would overshadow everything else.
So the first season is like Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight is the next movie, with Sauron maneuvering into the open.
We’re excited to see what fans have to say about season two after it aired. They may very well say, “This is the story we wanted in season one!” In season two, we’re giving it to them!
